Faculty
A native of Alabama, Dr. Sims received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed three years of surgical residency at Lloyd Noland Hospital prior to entering the Medical Center East Family Medicine Program where he completed his training. Dr. Sims was in private practice in Chalkville, Alabama, before joining the faculty and completing additional faculty training at Duke University. He serves as director of the residency program and has special interests in international and local medical missions, office surgical procedures, and medical informatics. Dr. Sims has been on faculty since 1986.

A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. Morehead received her medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. She completed her residency training at Medical Center East Family Medicine Program, serving as Chief Resident. She was in group private practice prior to joining the faculty. Dr. Morehead holds a Masters of Public Health in International Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health. International medical missions, implementation of primary care residency education overseas, and hospital medicine are among her specific interests. Dr. Morehead is the associate director of the residency program and has been on faculty since 1995.

A native of Tennessee, Dr. Gonzalez received her M.D. and M.P.H. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Schools of Medicine and Public Health, respectively. She completed residency training at the Georgetown University and Providence Hospital Family Practice Residency program in Washington, D.C. Dr. Gonzalez completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and serves as the Community Medicine and Curriculum Development Coordinator of the residency program. |

A native of Guyana, South America, Dr. VonDer Pool was raised in Washington D.C. She received her medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. She completed a family medicine esidency at the University of Washington, Providence Hospital Affiliated Program serving as chief resident. Dr. VonDer Pool spent seven years in private practice and as a volunteer instructor for the University of Washington. Prior to joining the faculty at SVE, she was an assistant professor at the University of Alabama for ten years. Dr. VonDer Pool has special interests in obstetrics, women's health care and gynecological procedures. |

Dr. Prince joined the faculty as a clinical pharmacy specialist in 2004, providing consultation and teaching services to patients, residents, and faculty on the inpatient family medicine service. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy and
completed a pharmacy residency at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Dr. Prince is a board certified Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and Assistant Professor at the McWhorter School of Pharmacy of Samford University |

A native of Tennessee, Dr. Shepard received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He completed his residency training here at St. Vincent's East where he also served as chief resident. Following graduation, Dr. Shepard began working as a private physician through a locum tenens organization as a hospitalist. He enjoys national and international mission work having served in Africa and Central America. He will officially join the faculty in February of 2010.
